Abstract:

European Research infrastructures are taking more and more the framework of dynamically interconnected networks of existing infrastructures, upgrading infrastructures, and new generating nodes. Within the NFFA-DI PNNR project we are going to realize, for the specialized field of the advanced characterizations, a bridge between:  Nanoscience Foundry and Fine Analysis (NFFA [1]) and the upgraded version of the Beyond Nano infrastructure (BNU) located in our institute.

In this contribution we describe in general the NFFA-DI project, where the addition -DI stands for “Digital Infrastructures”, and the protocols which have to be developed for the digitalization of processing and characterizations at the nanoscale. NFFA-DI aims to make fully digital NFFA, which is already a leading institution in the digitalization of scientific services for the nanosciences; and a critical attention will be to the practical realization of the F(indable) A(ccessible) I(nteroperable) R(eusable) management to the related databases. We will also present the specific/focused installation planned for the IMM@CT node and the tasks assigned to the node apart the procurement: hiring, upskills and exploratory activities. The new equipment will be a 3D profiling tool with atomic resolution which allow for 3D imaging at the nanoscale and chemical composition (3D Atom Probe or Atom Probe Tomography). The additional possibility which this machine will offer to some the already outstanding microstructural analysis techniques (in particular TEM, SEM and XRD methods, which will be considered in the bridging NFFA and BNU within NFFA-DI) already available in our institute will be discussed.
