In this work a new ecotoxicological bioassay is presented; early stage biofilm development could represent an interesting tool to evaluate the toxicity of xenobiotic compounds. The methodology is based on the counts of some microorganism belonging to marine biofilm community and it proved to be cheap, rapid, effective and repeatable.
