Silicon nanostructures: nanodots, nanowires, nanopores; Development of non-conventional lithographic methods based on self-assembling of block-copolymers; Doping of silicon through molecular monolayers; Fabrication and characterisation of solar cells based on Si and Si nanostructures.
Rosaria A. Puglisi received the Degree (cum laude) in Physics and the Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Catania. During her PhD she worked for one year with Prof. Harry A. Atwater at the University of Caltech, Pasadena (Los Angeles). After her doctorate Rosaria obtained three scholarships, two from STMicroelectronics and one from INFM, and a Post-Doc (Assegno di Ricerca) from the University of Catania.
Since 2001 Rosaria has been a Researcher at the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems of the CNR, where she has developed the following activities: Nanolithography based on self-assembly of copolymers (since 2005); Advanced semiconductor doping techniques using molecular monolayers (2011); Fabrication and characterization of photodiodes based on Si nanostructures (2012).
She is Technical-Scientific Expert and Evaluator of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), Scientific Evaluator of projects for the Ministry of University (MUR) and Scientific Evaluator for the VQR evaluation process. Commissioner, on behalf of the CNR, in more than 30 evaluation commissions, also in the role of President, for the awarding of scholarships, research grants and collaboration contracts.
Since 2015 she has been Head of the Solar Laboratory and the Copolymer Lithography Laboratory at the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems. From 2018 to 2020 she was Coordinator for the IMM headquarters in Catania for the "Synthesis of advanced materials" Technological Thematic Area. Since 2017 she has been a member of the Board of Professors of the PhD in Physics of the University of Messina.
Her research activity was mainly dedicated to the development of original ideas carried out independently and which have produced numerous scientific publications, in most of which she played the role of first author, corresponding author or last author. These include two review articles, two book chapters and two patents owned by CNR. She has been involved in managing various lines of scientific research during her career, personally coordinating the activities of a group of collaborators within the Institute. She played the role of Scientific Responsible of a Line of Activities within a PON (Energetic) project, Task leader in a European project (ERG), and submitted numerous project proposals to competitive calls for research funding, in the role of Coordinator. Rosaria Puglisi counts numerous prestigious collaborations with STMicroelectronics, Tyndall and with various Italian and foreign universities in which she played the role of Principal Investigator.
In 2019 Rosaria received the recognition of having selected her funding proposal for a CNR-Confindustria Industrial PhD scholarship, as part of a selection at national level. The aforementioned scholarship was also co-financed by STMicroelectronics of Catania, the first for IMM. She has co-organized several symposia in international scientific conferences and has held more than 50 seminars at international scientific conferences, including 7 Invited seminars (IEEE Conference, MRS Conference) 1 Award Talk and 1 Keynote Talk.
The teaching activity took the form of various teaching courses. She has been co-tutor for 8 PhD theses, 4 degree theses and 1 three-year degree thesis, and is currently following 3 PhD theses. She was the scientific responsible, on behalf of the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems, of several scholarships and research grants.
As part of the activities related to the THIRD MISSION of the CNR, from 2017 to date she is the Coordinator and Manager for the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems of a project dedicated to the dissemination of scientific disciplines to young women, an activity for which she was invited to present numerous seminars by various Italian schools and universities, presenting the activities to more than 1400 young students and professors.
